Ok. It's been a long time since I've added entries to this journal. The main reason is that many of them havn't been doing incredibly well. But also I have been working on other things. At one point I did some maintenance on their current terrarium. The main thing to clean the glass and to renew the wicking system as well as move them to a different area in my house. I also rewet the sawdust.. The whole colony moved out into the tube. Soon with the lights for heat they started to get a bit more active. It was clear they were starting to fed the then approximately 80-90 larvae. In time I managed to coax them back into the terrarium (mostly by bouncing the tube, etc.) In time I finally coaxed the queen into the terrarium and in time the whole colony moved in. Over time the larvae began to grow pretty dramatically and I noticed many of them being eaten. During this time the queen began laying eggs. As time has gone on the larvae from last years last brood have diminished. The egg count now is quite high. I don't even count them and expect we are back to roughly .5 cm**3. Those are now starting to hatch and currently there are 10 pupae some of which are very large. I've been feeding them with MS solition (I don't have any multivitamin so only using real maple syrup mixed with water).
Here is a shot I took of the colony.

The images below are even closer up. They are pictures of the brood on 2002.4.3. You can clearly recognize the queen some larvae, pupae and a couple of workers.

This last image is a shot from the backside with light shining in. In it one can clearly make out a worker, a number of larvae in various stages of development and another worker carrying a fruit fly in its mandibles(jaws).
