Greetings Taz! Hmmm. It's hard to say given that you wern't able to identify if those alates(winged ants) were male (drones) or females (virgin queens). No all ants do not come with wings. Could be all kinds of reasons you observed what you did - w/o additional info I could only speculate. |

Ms. Lindner. How nice of you to stop by and write! Any feedback regarding what you as a teacher find lacking here, or particularly students comments would be greatly appreciated.. I'm glad the FAQ was helpful.. We (the authors) decided to make that FAQ because we got tired of answering the same questions over and over again. With regards to searching for ant sites. I agree tons of entries . I have been working on my links page in which I am trying to put together a fairly complete ant link resource page.. The first few sites on that list also have pretty extensive links and other information. Welcome to the world wide search :).. As always good things take time.. As this year unfolds I'm hoping to put up a lot more information, pictures, etc. regarding the field work I have planned.. Also I do have a journal of one young ant researcher online David that your students can check out. The only one of my journals I have available or have been working on is my camponotus journal - which they can step through and read.. If you have any students which plan on obtaining and studying ants this spring I would be happy to create a way for them to make journal entries of there own here.. I would very much like to have as many young ant hobbiest journals as possible as other young hobbiests can gain perspective from their peers on the problems, and successes other have experienced..

Well Me seeing as I'm not sure I believe your e-mail address AND you didn't care to tell me what OS and browser you were using I can't check. I can tell you that the html page itself is updated with each cam snapshot. So the html page AND the image it refers to change every 20/60 seconds depending on which page your looking at (you didn't bother to tell me). Hence there is no single image one can link to to get a updating cam image. I did this to overcome bugs in Netscape that wasn't updating properly (when image URL is same it wouldn't update). The additional benefit was that it made it harder for people to steal my feed - or use my cam as backgrounds on their computer (if someone wants that they have to ask!!).
Final note: I have checked on the browsers available to me and both 60 sec update pages work fine.. So if you manage to come back please give some info so I might try to diagnose and fix the problem if there is one..

Thanks for pointing out the problem Kris! I'm glad you enjoy the site. I do work hard to try to keep things interesting. I have a lot more to do so look forward to better things. You and all other fellow myrmecologists are welcome! |

Braden! Thanks for stopping by. I'm sorry you had a terrible time trying to make your own plaster terrarium. I hope the terrariums are working ok for you. (Nothing is perfectg) And above all I hope your colony(ies?!) is(are) doing well.. |
