My somewhat sarcastic and attempt at being funny reply from a male "Didn't know we wern't ruled by females". Though while I agree the male of the human species has it's own issues which reflect in society. I think it's safe to say the female has it's own set of issues as well. Would our society be different if it was matriarchal than patriarchal? Perhaps. I ask a different question though. Would our society be different if it was based on a dominant moral/religious philosophy different than Christian? For instance buddhist??! It's quite easy to blame those who we see as having power for our problems and to not look to ourselves and ask how we by giving up our power have contributed to our situation. I am convinced if women continue to 'come out' - (and not by being like men) and assert their power that our society might find somewhat more balance. Though honestly we are still wrestling the constant battle of philosophical idealogies - namely between pure capitalism(freedom of the individual) and socialism(idea that we are all affected by each others individual actions). I suspect I am one of the few who observes that government by nature is a socialistic enterprise, capitalism at it's core is 'generally' anarchistic. Though it is also true these words can't quite describe the tapestry of grays of the whole situation we face. |

Hmmm. My retort to the above is the following. If people would realize my time is valuable and take the time to read the Ants FAQ, Gakkens, and the sites on my links page and stop wasting my time asking questions which have been already answered thousands of times I wouldn't be so damn irritable. It would be a refreshing change to encounter someone who has actually taken more than 30 seconds of web searching before presuming upon my time to read the FAQ to them. I have no problem helping people who have at least tried to help themselves. Somehow you think telling me that if I was nicer you'd do anything remotely helpful? It's like me saying if you wern't such a idiot I might be nicer. I can apologize for my flaws, and have no problem doing so. But when I have to deal with your average to extreme jerks, mind game players, phoneys, lazies, psychopathic or at best simply totally ignorant people on constant and almost daily or weekly basis simply because I am trying to figure out how to share my love of ants with people, as well as my experiences. Perhaps if you have any thought of anyone but yourself you might come to have a ounce of sympathy and thanks for what 'little' I do provide. |

I checked your site and while it is about ants at least on my browser there is very little there. When and if you have something substantial (even journals would be nice) I'll reconsider adding your link here. Just a note. I will be removing link addition as well as referrer information to the guestbook CGI as that information is mostly turning out to be useless. What is even worse is the link section of the cgi is starting to get abused by site spammers who think they are going to get a free link on my site. :( sorry folks - you want a link here have a very good site with NEW or at least unique information about ants. Tell you what dumpty - take a X-Y plotter which can scan 12x12 and hook it up to a standard serial port write driver software which I can use on my SGI and hook into webserver for scan control and we can talk price. It's something I've wanted but just don't have the time or moeny to do. It's not like I get $$ from people who come and visit. Hope everyone has a nice life - but it seems life is a tough thing and anything nice I find myself being more and more grateful for. But something which pays the bills or puts food on my table is liek a godsend. Ideas are a dime a dozen, now implementations that is a whole different story. |

Yeah I hear you Sonas. See below for comments. But I'll add more here. I'd love to put up or down load my brain to my sitebut there have been developments regarding copyright law and enforcement which have basically caused me to pause and rethink doing any new expansions. Perhaps if my book on Ant Farming does well I'll have more inspiriation to do more on this site. I do have stuff planned but it is all on pause for now. My sincerest apologies but realize that unless you put your $$ where your mice clicks are there ust isn't a lot of incentive for webmasters to create new free content for you. I wish it wern't so but we have to pay the bills as well. All I can say is a lot has come along to take the winds out of my sail. I probably will do more with journals once I decide what to do. And look forward to some site reorganization when I have time and inclination. I wish I could go into details but suffice it to say that life on the web is not all that glorious or rewarding. Though honestly have to thank everyone who have purchased terrariums or equipment from me. YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE and you are the ones who actually make doing this worthwhile for me. |

Hey Riley. Well been busy paying the bills and deciding what to do next. Thanks to the general unenforcability of copyright laws I'm not especially hot to create more content. Perhaps in time I will. But for now I'm working on a book which I origionally had hoped to put online. But now I realize that when given a free lunch way too many people will eat of it and not think a whit about the time or energy it took to create and hence compensate. There are also people who even if one puts it behind a secure link and asks for donations will steal it and post it elsewhere. Just way too easy once something is digital to copy it and put your own name on it. As a note the Milton terrariums are usable. Just I never had the opportunity. In time I'll put excerpts on important sections form book up. I do have things I want to cover but I have to address carefully the issue of content in a reasonable way. |

I'm not sure your slowing down the water will help since the issue is not the rate per-se but the fact of whether the water is syphoning or wicking. I deal with this in my upcoming book. I appreciate the appreciation. As to answers on message board. That is the way it is - sometimes questions have been answered so many times the same one are ignored. Have you botherd to read the FAQ or to educate yourself by taking books out of the library?? From fixing and looking at my own messageboard I can say that the quality of the questions is very low and I'm coming to start to ignore most of them as they don't seem to be serious questions or from people or kids who don't seem to want to take any time to read and learn for themselves. The questions on queens alone are indicative of how lazy some folk are with regards to educating themselves. So while I can't say I know why it's taking a long time or if any of the above applies to you. It applies to my own feelings on the matter in general. |

As long as people including yourself review what is available to answer your questions I have no problem. It's the people who ask what is already answered in the FAQ or just really dumb questions (dumb in the sense that if one even remotely began to educate ones self by reading one would not ask them) that is a real let down.. Nope I don't like it and I have freinds all over the world and will make your life a living hell should people not learn how to respect others work by ASKING first and being willing to offer something in return. Some people just don't get it. Have no clue that it takes my time energy and money to make and maintain this site. So when someone just comes in and effectively steals what they want it pisses me off. It's like me coming to your home letting myself in and eating all your food, taking what I want and telling you to fack off when you come home. Perhaps at some point. I'm less interested in capturing videos of simple nest workings as I tend to like to actually see the ants and not thier constructions. Start up a colony and see for yourself. But feedback is noted - but low on the priority list. Perhaps in time.. There are som good books which discuss nest construction in detail "The Ants" is one of them. |

Hey Cameron! Good to see you signed the Guestbook. When is the 'best' time of year. It varies highly depending on where you live. Typically warm days, just before it's going to rain. This April in Michigan we got 85 degree days (a oddity to be sure). And there were nuptual flights of a yet still unidentified species. Could becommon corn field ants. Won't know until I can get some decent pics of them up and see if anyone can identify them. |

That's cool Micky. I did the Time Machine a long time ago. In fact all the images for the AntCam now consume about 50+GIGABYTES. I'm not sure how much longer I'll continue to keep those archives online. Not many people know how to use the Time Machine - even fewer know it exists. Call it bad site design, or promotion. I started that project a long time ago so I could do a time lapse of a cam in front of my house. It was very cool. The AntCam video which has a couple years of time lapse footage is wild. |

Coleman. Well maybe someday I'll have dossiers on lots of species of ants. I'm confidant you'll find something as harvesters are also a common captivity subject. Check the message boards in the links page. Currently AntCam message board is dead.. Also you should obtain a copy of "The Ants" by Holldobler and Wilson and review chapter 18 - The Harvesting Ants. There is a lot of good info in there. |
